The problem
Electric-vehicle movement and power demand affect each other, but transportation and grid studies are often run as separate simulations. That split makes it difficult to inspect how traffic and charging behavior carry through to the power network.
The approach
CascadeBench couples SUMO for road traffic with PyPSA for power-system analysis. Its multi-resolution design keeps the two models in one workflow while allowing different parts of a scenario to be studied at the level of detail they need. An interactive interface makes the coupled run and its outputs easier to inspect.
What it demonstrates
The project brings together simulation design, data exchange between two domain models, and an interface for exploring the results. It is the basis of a first-author IEEE BigData 2026 Demo Track submission that is currently under review.
